December 2011 saw the arrival of De Walvisch in London celebrations and the opening Salon on board. Artist Doug Fishbone devised a performance/ stand-up slide lecture written especially for the occasion and installed Joke Master Junior in the ship’s toilet. Richard Strange gave a rendition of The Grey Funnel Line, and James Cauty presented a sound composition from the stern deck cowl vents, as well as Riots in Jam Jars in the galley cupboards.

Writer/ critics JJ Charlesworth and Jennifer Thatcher‘s  performance was a morse code translation of Jacques Briel’s “Amsterdam”, written over the grand hold walls in chalk. There was shanty singing at the supper table from Folk singer Sam Lee,  and new music from Tyburnia.  Artworks were also installed in the Chart room, in the bow, and at the supper table.
